Our Seventh Tradition states that Overeaters Anonymous “ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions.” While no fees or dues are required for membership, OA members have a responsibility to keep our rooms (physical or virtual) open, provide opportunities for fellowship, and spread our message of recovery.
Many of the meetings associated with Heart of Texas OA Intergroup are virtual. Virtual meetings typically do not have ongoing expenses such as paying for the use of a meeting space. OA service bodies (Heart of Texas OA Intergroup, OA Region 3 and OA World Service Office) continue to have ongoing expenses (for example the Zoom meeting service provided by Heart of Texas OA Intergroup) and so rely upon 7th Tradition contributions in order to continue supporting the OA Fellowship. Individuals - You can contribute to The Heart of Texas OA Intergroup, which then makes contributions to OA Region 3 and the OA World Service Office.
Meetings - Are suggested to send 50% of excess funds to their intergroup or service board, 10% to their region and 40% to WSO. Automatic contributions - If you want to “drop your dollar” in the virtual basket on a regular basis, the online payment services used by Heart of Texas OA Intergroup offers the ability to set up automatic monthly contributions. |
